I’m the fashion world’s most-enduring muse.

It’s My Anniversary!

I just realized that twenty-two years ago this week, I became a certified fitness trainer for the first time.

The 80s were an interesting time for a lot of reasons, but mostly because people were working out for fun (what a concept!).  The aerobics craze had swept the civilized world, and appearing as if you went to the gym was a badge of honor.  Like any other trend, it eventually faded away.  However, I kept up my training and I’m still a gym rat to this day.

A lot of things have changed since the 80s (although today’s designers seem to be stealing a lot of fun looks from the era), including the manner in which people work out.  Yoga and Pilates have taken the place of those old-school, high-energy workouts.  Yet neither of those disciplines will ever replace bouncing around, tripping over your own feet while trying to learn a bunch of dorky dance steps in a braided headband and white Reeboks.  It was so much more fun than laying on a mat listening to whale noises.

Anyway, enjoy the video I posted to commemorate this milestone.  If there’s another Mormon octet of Tongan ancestry that I like more than The Jets, I can’t think of them right now!  Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some dance moves to practice.
