Jil Sander

What a weird show Raf Simons put on at Jil Sander this season.  Singular sensations, like the dress above, were tremendously artful, yet verging on unwearability.  The wearable pieces in the collection seemed to be pulled from the racks of a Ports International store ca. 1986.  It was all a little off-key.  I don’t know if the designer was trying to strike a chord that would resonate with both critics and consumers, or if he was just off in his own world, singing his own tune .

At any rate, I really didn’t like it.  To see many of the same fabrics and silhouettes treated with such brilliance at Bottega Veneta spoiled me for any other forays into minimalism this season, I guess.  And when you hit the high notes that Tomas Maier hit with his BV show, no one else can compare, anyway.
