Happy birthday, Mary Katrantzou.  I wouldn’t be telling the truth if I told you that you’re the greatest thing to come out of Greece since the end of antiquity, because that honor goes to Nana Mouskouri.  Still, think you’re swell!

CPO Jacket

CPO Jacket: CPO stands for Chief Petty Officer, which is a rank in the United States Navy. A  CPO jacket is a Navy inspired vintage jacket that was popular back in the 1960s  and 1970s.  Since then it has re-emerged on the market as a trendy type of coat (from eHow Style).

Regionally, the CPO jacket was also known by other names.  In the Canadian province of Alberta, for example, the CPO jacket was called a “freak jacket” or a “head jacket,” after the terms “drug freak“ and “pot head.”  The jackets were worn mostly by small-time drug dealers along with moose-knuckle-tight jeans and AC/DC concert T-shirts in order to identify the wearer as a seller of marijuana or hashish.

Recently, the CPO jacket has undergone a stylish resurgence, worn by celebrities including Justin Bieber.

Vogue Mexico

Check out the latest cover for “Vogue Mexico.”  That’s the gorgeous Constance Jablonski in a dress from the Emanuel Ungaro S/S 2012 collection.  I really liked this scarlet and turquoise section of the show.  Even though Giles Deacon had parted ways with the label only weeks before this dress hit the runway, I could see his influence on the collection.  And during this particular section, I felt as if the heritage of Ungaro was being mined in a manner that showed some promise for the future.

With the recent departure of even more executives, however, I suppose that the label is doomed.  I don’t know how one dress on the cover of an international version of “Vogue” could possibly turn around the fortunes of one of the most-mismanaged labels in fashion, but I kind of wish it would.  I also wish that Ungaro would make me their creative director because they couldn’t do worse, could they?  It’s not like I’m Lindsay Lohan or the creative team from Halston . . .
