Happy birthday, Masi Oka. I don’t want to make a Karaoke joke because that would be too obvious. Maybe I can just make fun of your height . . .
Here’s something for my list that a lot of people won’t understand.
I’ve been asked a zillion times why I don’t move to Toronto or New York to pursue a career in fashion journalism, and I always tell people it’s because I love living where I live. My home, the Fortress of Pulchritude, is in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It’s a lovely city. It sort of sprawls out too much because this is the land of wide-open spaces, but otherwise there aren’t really a lot of bad things about Edmonton aside from the cold weather (which I actually like).
An organization named Numbeo that ranks cities based on quality of life has Edmonton listed as the third-best city in the world, just behind Berlin and Zurich. Statistics used to compile the rankings take purchasing power, house price to income ratio, safety, health and traffic time into consideration. In my personal opinion, living here is quite easy. I believe that people who complain about the city are the type of people who just complain about everything. It reminds me of that old adage, “Life is what you make it.” If you make it a bitchfest, you’re not going to be happy anywhere.
Anyway, it’s no fashion capital yet, but as long as I continue to make Edmonton my home, there is no reason to deride this city. I am the fashion world’s most-enduring muse, and wherever I go, the world will follow.
Happy birthday, Beth Behrs. I should also apologize to you because I still haven’t seen a single episode of your show. I only have about sixty hours-per-week to watch TV, so I have to make some difficult choices . . .
“American Horror Story: Asylum” is a glorious train-wreck. It’s been a long time since someone has been able to pack so much craziness into a single program without losing me a few episodes into the season. I can’t wait until it resumes its run in January. My Wednesday nights just haven’t been the same without it.
Anyway, if there’s one thing that’s made the show even more spectacular, it’s the performance of Lily Rabe as Sister Mary Satan (as the fans are calling her). On a related note, someone needs to cast this girl as a fashion editor! It would be a shame if all that evil went to waste.
Happy birthday, The Veronicas. You’re like a Capricorn version of the Olsen twins. I mean I never recoil in horror when I see your photos . . .
Happy birthday, Riyo Mori. Not that I’m label whore or anything, but you were my pick to win Miss Universe 2007 from the moment I recognized that Gucci gown . . .
Happy belated birthday, Estella Warren. Yesterday got away from me and I forgot to post anything on my blog. Still, sometimes it’s better just to forget our mistakes and move on. By the way, weren’t you in the remake of “Planet of the Apes” . . .
