Auntie Fashion

I’m the fashion world’s most-enduring muse.

It’s New York Fashion Week . . .

Crying Baby

. . . and I’m really not ready for it.

I’ve been blogging about having nothing to blog about for a while.  That’s because I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with fashion; sometimes it inspires and other times it infuriates me.  Lately, I’ve been vacillating somewhere in between, and that’s even worse than picking a side.

I suppose the worst thing about fashion right now is that the sentiment on the street seems to be less-contrived than it has in a long time — a bit of a throwback to the Grunge era (but without the actual grunge). Yet many of the people who comment on fashion are still stuck in the previous decade where almost everyone believed that squealing about high-heeled shoes and cocktail dresses made you a fashionista.  If I have to watch another two-bit fashion critic breaking down a red carpet look on television I’m going to kill someone!

The same thing goes for the shows.  It’s not the shows that I don’t like (although there are still too many of them).  It’s the inane commentary I’m going to read over the next few months and the accompanying circus outside the tents.  “Street style” has become the exact opposite of street style.  I would take less time getting ready for my own wedding than many of these people take getting ready for their close-up.

Anyway, I’m going to try to get out of this funk.  Maybe something will rekindle this flame.  Or maybe not. Only time will tell.
