Forty Fads I’d Like To See Again
Today’s episode of “The Young and the Restless” is a throwback. The show often plays so-called “classic” episodes on American holidays. I caught a couple minutes of it yesterday (it airs a day earlier in Canada than it does in the U.S.), and it made me long for the day when glamour used to be a part of daytime TV.
Soaps are terrible right now. Y&R executive producer Jill Farren Phelps has turned Genoa City into a low-budget wasteland, populated by dull, uninteresting people who wouldn’t know glamour if it shot them dead while wearing a fabulous wedding dress. “Days of Our Lives” is marginally better because it’s retained its campy sense of humor, but the rest are just sad.
I hate to hear people claiming that daytime drama is a dying genre. If something doesn’t work, just f***ing fix it, already. And whatever you do, don’t replace it with another show where a panel of women complain that things don’t work.
Bring back soaps!
