Jay Manuel

Jay Manuel was on In Fashion today making googly eyes at Glenn Baxter and teasing him about a big surprise that’s going to change the entire competition halfway through the season on the still-to-be-cast Canada’s Next Top Model Cycle 3.

I figure that a mid-season change can only mean one thing: An international destination!  New York?  London?  Milan?  Paris?

My money is on Moose Jaw.  Everyone is clamouring to get a piece of Canada’s Glamour Capital.  I have a feeling that Rita Silvan of Elle Canada will soon be leaving her cushy job to transfer to the Moose Jaw Times Herald.  They’re both owned by the same company, and it would be a wise move on Rita’s behalf since I’m already such good friends with Ceri Marsh and Lisa Tant.  Being the Times Herald fashion editor might get her into a few more parties when the big event finally arrives.

Out with the old?

Rebecca Hardy

One of the perks of winning Canada’s Next Top Model is the opportunity to appear in a real fashion layout in a real fashion magazine.  Last season’s winner, Rebecca Hardy, got an editorial spread in FASHION.

However, CNTM is moving to CTV.  FASHION Magazine is somewhat connected to the now-wretched Fashion File.  Does that mean that CNTM is going to look for another magazine to collaborate with?

Just last week, Lisa Tant of Flare told me that she wasn’t really interested in reality TV (read the interview here), unless the show had something to do with Zob.  Still, I wouldn’t blame her if she teamed up with CTV if they asked her to award the CNTM winner a layout in her publication.  She could be the Canadian version of Seventeen magazine’s Ann Shoket, who gets to show up at all those fun modeling challenges to give the contestants half-baked advice.  What a gig!

But what would Ceri Marsh do if that plum was snatched away from her?  Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself, but I see the beginnings of an epic battle forming here.  No matter what Ceri Marsh and Lisa Tant say about their mutual respect for each other, I don’t believe it.  The pair of editors reminds me of Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn in Death Becomes Her.

Speaking of death, I wonder what’s happened to Fashion File?  I don’t recall seeing a new episode in quite some time.  Don’t get me started about Fashion File Host Hunt again, but I have to say that the casting on that show was the first nail in FF’s coffin.  Anyway, I would appreciate a reliable status update on the program — if anyone knows anything.  Any other idle gossip would also be appreciated.

Canada’s Next Top Model on CTV

In the best news I’ve heard since Lisa Tant admitted to being a Zob-worshipper, Canada’s Next Top Model is moving to CTV.

The CTV press release reads:

In a program first, Canada’s Next Top Model hopefuls have the option of submitting their application packages online at the series’ all-new website, Applications are being received now through December 22, 2008. Thousands will apply, but only 10 women will compete on-air for an incredible grand prize that includes a $100,000 beauty contract.

“With the enormous success of So You Think You Can Dance Canada and Canadian Idol, we can’t wait to take Canada’s Next Top Model to the next level,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “We will continue to bring the sidewalk to the catwalk, providing 10 young women an opportunity of a lifetime and the winner with the chance to jumpstart her modeling career.”

Hooray!  I love CTV!  They aren’t afraid to spend a little money to make a little money, so I’m sure this show is going to get about a million times better.  I’ve done tons of work for the network, and I know they won’t leave a single stone unturned when it comes to attracting major league talent to CNTM.

I wonder if FASHION Magazine is on board yet?  I’ve gotta call Ceri Marsh to discuss her choice of outfits if she gets to be a panelist.  I’m thinking Gareth Pugh.  She always looks lovely in black and white.
